Plymouth Drake Royal Marine Cadets Prepare For Gibraltar Cup 2017

Held at the world famous Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (CTCRM) in Lympstone, the competition is comprised of a series of challenges, tests and assessments designed to establish which detachment has achieved the highest, most consistent level of outstanding performance.

Every detachment nominated has already proven itself a worthy winner from within its own Company, but only the fittest, most dedicated, well trained and cohesive detachment will get to take home the Gibraltar Cup 2017. The Gibraltar Cup is presented by the Commandant General Royal Marines and is named after the Battle Honour of the Royal Marines. It is awarded annually to the Royal Marines Cadet Detachment (RMCD) which is considered to have attained the highest standard of all round merit in the previous year.

In 2015 Task Force Distribution Limited were approached by cadets from the Truro Detachment (Alpha Coy) of the Royal Marine Cadets (RMC) who wanted help with potential boot sponsorship as they were struggling with boot uniformity, fitting, sizing and quality. With the assistance of LOWA and W. L. Gore & Associates, we were able to provide 14 pairs of military boots; much to the delight of the staff and cadets themselves. 2017’s Gibraltar Cup competition sees the Plymouth Drake Detachment (Alpha Coy) selected and once again we have been approached to supply LOWA military boots for cadets in their quest to win the prestigious Gibraltar Cup.

Over the next 2 months, Task Force Distributions will be following the progress of Plymouth Det RMC as they continue training for their shot at the “Gib Cup”. They're currently hard at work preparing for the upcoming challenges ahead, but we were recently lucky enough to catch up with Royal Marine Cadet Class 2  Hutchins, Lance Corporal Dennis and Lance Corporal Peppitt during some well-earned downtime.

RMC2 Hutchins - “Personally I have found the training challenging but rewarding. It has been challenging as we have had to work as a section with less input from staff which has tested our skills as a team, and as individuals we’re having to think on the spot whilst under pressure. The training we have completed has consisted of a wide range of things from field craft to casualty evacuation which has all been beneficial as we have had to do things out of our comfort zone under pressure to complete different objectives.

The training has boosted my confidence in my knowledge and decision-making skills whilst also teaching me new things and different approaches to certain scenarios. However, the training has been very intense and continuous due to the abundance of subjects we have needed to cover giving me allot to take on board.

Overall the training has advanced my knowledge of soldiering and my own skills with regards to leadership and being a team player. It's been tough but very rewarding.”

Lance Corporal  Dennis – “Training for Gibraltar cup so far has been physically demanding yet very rewarding. We've got an excellent team who can work together and prove themselves as resourceful, forward-thinking and adaptive. Within the team there is a sense of professionalism and humour which works together in an exemplary combination.”

Lance Corporal Peppitt – “We have been doing advance to contact, break contact also casevac drill to work on Gib cup it is going really well the detachment are working really well however we will need to work on it so that the team cohesion will be better and so our outcome is much better on gib cup and also within training.”
