Final Gibraltar Cup Preparations For Plymouth Drake Detachment

This weekend, the very best detachment from each of the six Royal Marine Cadet Companies will descend on the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (CTCRM) in Lympstone, Devon, to battle it out for this year’s award. Identified as Alpha company, the Plymouth Drake Detachment shall be competing against detachments from Yankee company from the North, Bravo from the North West, X-Ray from the East, Zulu from the South, and Lima from the London area. The winners of this year’s Gibraltar Cup Competition shall automatically be entered into the Portsmouth Cup 2017 competition.

Over the past few months, Task Force Distributions has been following the progress of the Plymouth Det RMC’s training with keen interest. Preparations for the Gibraltar Cup are coming to a close and all those involved are getting in as much last-minute training as possible before demonstrating what they have learned as individuals and as a team this coming Saturday.

Catching Up With The Gibraltar Cup 2017 Plymouth Drake Detachment

Last month, we were able to interview three members of the Plymouth Drake Royal Marine Cadets detachment as they prepared for Gibraltar Cup 2017. However, with so much going on this close to the competition we were unable to catch up with Lance Corporal Dennis and Lance Corporal Peppitt to see how they were getting on. Fortunately, RMC2 Hutchins was able to spare a moment to provide us with an update:

“The training in the past few weeks has been even more intense than before as the pressure has been rising to get everything finalised and squared away. However, it's been really helpful for the entire section to get used to how we work as a team and establish each other’s strengths and weakness to use to our advantage this coming weekend.

It's been challenging to try and keep up the pace and train to the same effort as before, due to the continuous training we have been conducting. Though as a result I am confident that this will make us more prepared for the Gibraltar Cup weekend. All in all the training has gotten harder but even more effective for us as a section and enabled us to enhance skills already possessed and learn skills we hadn't yet acquired.”

Everyone at Task Force Distributions wishes the Plymouth Drake Detachment the very best of luck in the upcoming competition, and we shall look forward to talking with them again once it has been concluded.
