5 Frequently Asked Questions About LOWA Safety Boots

Can Safety Boots Be Used For Hiking?

This will greatly depend on the type of safety boot you choose, as some safety boots will be more suitable for hiking than others. If you wish to wear safety boots for hiking, it is best to choose a pair that offers additional support and built-in cushioning for comfort. Another useful point to look out for is the material, as boots with breathable, wear-resistant uppers are an ideal option. Overall, a lightweight safety boot is also suitable for hiking or short expeditions, while midweight or heavier options being better suited to industrial applications.

Please note that while safety boots can be used for hiking, we would never recommend them. People may consider hiking in safety boots due to the protection they afford, but they are simply not made with hiking in mind and are unlikely to provide the right kind of support. In addition to military boots and safety boots, LOWA produces a wide range of hiking boots and any one of them would be a more preferable option.

Can You Wear Safety Boots On A Plane?

Safety boots are acceptable to wear on a plane; however, this may slow down the time it takes to go through airport security. You may be required to take them off for security purposes,as there is always a risk of a boot’s metal content setting off the security scanners. However, once you have passed through the security procedures, you will be able to put your LOWA safety boots back on and travel as usual.

Are Safety Boots Zero Rated For VAT?

This depends on who is purchasing the boots and for what purpose. If an individual orders safety boots for their own work use, then they are VAT rated 0%. However, if an employer is buying safety boots for their employees to use, then they are required by law to pay VAT.

Are Safety Boots Steel Toe?

Due to the potentially hazardous nature of certain working environments such as building sites and factories, extra protection is needed. Many safety boots include steel toe caps to protect this delicate area from injury and are available in a range of toe styles, which allows for a wider choice in the style of boot. However, not every safety boot is steel toe. Another option is composite toe cap safety boots, which are manufactured using carbon fibre instead of steel. These tend to be more lightweight, however, can be quite bulbous in design since composite toe boots are not quite as strong as their steel toe counterparts.

What Are S3 Safety Boots?

S3 safety boots are designed to meet the criteria of the European safety standard EN ISO 20345. The toe area must protect against a 200-joule impact, with S3 also requiring a greater midsole penetration resistance. S3 safety boots will have also been tested to protect against water penetration with a resistance to water absorption.  LOWA S3 safety boots come in a range of styles so suit multiple applications; including industrial, combat, and construction.
