What Are The Benefits Of LOWA Active Creme & How Do I Use It?

LOWA Active Creme is an intensive wax care that’s designed to help enhance the properties of LOWA boots (or climbing or hiking shoes), whilst extending their longevity. The creme works to keep the leather supple over the long term, whilst preventing drying out and brittleness. If leather is not conditioned and left to dry out, it can be prone to cracking.

Aside from conditioning the leather, LOWA Active Creme also provides boots with a new gloss, repelling water without blocking the pores of the leather. This enables the boots to adjust to the climate, even under extreme conditions.

LOWA boots are naturally durable and water-resistant. Many LOWA military boots are made using Gore-Tex® technology which prevents water from getting into the boot, whilst enabling sweat and moisture to escape the boot. This means that feet are kept dry whilst still being able to breathe. The choice of suede, nubuck or full grain leather used to make LOWA boots also ensures optimum durability. Whilst LOWA boots are naturally durable, applying LOWA Active Creme on a regular basis will only help to enhance their longevity and strength.

How Do You Use LOWA Active Creme?

There are two types of LOWA Active Creme 75ml. Active Creme Neutral & Active Creme Black. The neutral creme is a colourless intensive wax care for any colour of boot such as desert boots, whilst the black active creme is to be applied to black boots. It’s recommended that you apply LOWA Active Creme at least every 4 months or so, after cleaning your boots using the following steps:

1.Remove Footbeds & Laces:

First things first, you want to start by removing the footbeds and laces, this will enable you to pull back the tongue and clean all areas of the boot effectively. It will also enhance ventilation throughout the boot.

2.Brush Off Loose Dirt

Using a soft brush, start by removing as much surface dirt as possible. It’s always important to remove excess dirt from your boots before storing, as if left unchecked, the bacteria found in dirt will eat away at the leather.

3. Wipe With A Warm Soapy Cloth Or Cleaning Spray

Once you’ve got rid of the surface dirt, you can clean the remaining dirt away using a soft cloth and warm soapy water. We recommend using the LOWA specialist cleaning spray as this helps to open up the pores of the leather, providing a more thorough clean. If you are using cleaning products like this that dilate the leather’s pores, make sure to rinse the boots thoroughly afterwards.

4. Apply Water Stop Pro Spray (Optional)

Whilst the boots are still slightly damp, we’d recommend applying LOWA Water Stop Pro Spray. This impregnates the leather, creating a water, oil and dirt-repellent layer that aids conditioning while ensuring that the leather maintains its breathability. Once applied, leave the boots in a well-ventilated space for 24 hours in order for the treatment to take effect.

5. Apply LOWA Active Creme

Once you’ve treated the boots with the Pro Stop Spray you can apply LOWA Active Creme. The easiest way to do this is by using a soft bristled brush - this will enable you to get into all the nooks and crannies of the leather. Make sure to apply the active creme well in advance of your next trip so that it has enough time to dry out.
