Find The Perfect Boots For Ten Tors 2022 With LOWA

Ten Tors is an ambitious but incredibly rewarding challenge that thousands of young people take part in every year. The challenge requires teams to navigate distances of 35,45 or 55 miles across Dartmoor, visiting ten nominated tors / checkpoints across the two days. This year’s event is taking place on 6th - 8th May.

If you’re taking part in this year’s Ten Tors challenge, you’ll know the importance of having the right kit. This is essential for ensuring you stay safe and comfortable throughout training and the event itself. Participants will be issued with an official kit list stating all the mandatory clothing and equipment that is required. Central to this, will be choosing the right footwear. Your walking boots are one of the most essential pieces of kit for Ten Tors. When walking the minimum of 35 miles in challenging conditions, it’s absolutely crucial that your feet are supported throughout. This is essential for preventing injury, whilst keeping you comfortable and allowing you to complete the challenge to your best ability.

A Ten Tors boot needs to be:

Durable

Supportive

Waterproof

Lightweight

Why are LOWA boots an option for Ten Tors? Well, to start with they feature all the above properties just mentioned. LOWA boots are made using strict production methods that ensure they are unrivalled in durability. This includes an exclusive spray-on glueing process and the addition of a protective rubber rand that protects the quality of the leather from moisture and damage. We implement the latest innovations in footwear technology, including Gore-Tex® waterproof technology and Vibram sole technology to deliver the best performance. The attention to detail in our manufacturing processes alongside our selection of high performance materials, creates a boot that is reliable, supportive and comfortable for Ten Tors participants.

What’s The Best LOWA Boot For Ten Tors?

The most suitable boot for Ten Tors from the LOWA collection is our Mountain Gore-Tex® Boot. The uppers are made from full-grain leather that’s known for its durability and a Gore-Tex® lining keeps feet dry in wet weather, whilst allowing them to breathe, letting sweat and moisture escape the boot. This is essential for preventing those dreaded blisters during the Ten Tors challenge. The Gore-Tex® technology is also a really important feature for a Ten Tors boot as it ensures that participants are prepared for all weather conditions.

A Vibram® "Tsavo" sole on the Mountain Boot offers exceptional grip whilst ensuring feet are supported, in order to help prevent fatigue when hiking over long distances. The uppers are assembled using a board lasted method, with a cemented sole to ensure maximum resilience when exercising in rugged terrain.

Don’t Forget Gaiters

When exercising on Dartmoor, we’d always recommend wearing a pair of gaiters with. These are fabric guards that cover the gap between your trousers and your walking boots, preventing water from getting into your boots and ensuring loose debris doesn’t scrape your legs. This is particularly important for Ten Tors where you may be crossing rivers or streams, and where you’ll definitely be encountering varied and rugged terrain.

We’d recommend full-fronted gaiters such as the Berghaus Yeti Gaiters that are worn just below the knee. The Gore-Tex® performance shell provides durable, breathable and reliable waterproof protection, whilst letting perspiration escape. The gaiters are secured using a hook-and-loop storm flap plus an integrated foot strap.
